Glasgow Youth Film Festival Print E-mail

This years Glasgow Youth Film Festival (GYFF) is jam packed with youth inspired, imaginative and artistic films that highlight; youth empowerment, youth issues and youth culture.  Over this two week period Glasgow will come alive with youth film culture.  These films will take place in venues across Glasgow , with the majority of these showings taking place at the Glasgow Film Theatre (GFT).  These showings are very reasonably priced to attend, with some showings being free – but do require ticket booking in advance.

respectme was thrilled to be approached by the GYFF to help raise awareness and promote Director Ruben Ostlund’s film Play, which explores key bullying themes.  respectme staff will be attending this showing and will be distributing anti-bullying resources at this event.  This free, but ticketed showing will take place on Monday 13th February 2012 starting at 18.00 in the GFT.

Play
is a Swedish film with English subtitles, which was one of the outstanding titles at the Cannes film festival last year; it is ‘a provocative, unsettling film that you’ll be pondering for days’.  Below is the GYFF’s summary of Play:

‘Over the course of a tense afternoon in central Gothenburg - Sweden - five African immigrant boys toy with three well-heeled teens.  The outcome, essentially, is the theft of a mobile phone, but the boys’ purpose is also more subtle and sadistic – a complex “game” of intimidation that takes advantage of white liberal guilt and political correctness.’

After the showing, there will be a special panel discussion about issues raised in the film.  This panel will be made up of inspiring young people with a range of different experiences in film making, anti-bullying projects and anti-bullying campaigning.  respectme are pleased to support a young person who we have previously worked with to be apart of this discussion panel on the night.
