Body Image and Bullying
Bullying behaviour based on someone’s appearance and body image is prevalent across our schools and wider society. Many young people are targeted simply because of how they look which can affect how they think, feel and behave and can have a long lasting and detrimental impact on mental health and wellbeing.
You can help make a real difference by understanding how this type of bullying behaviour arises, by knowing how to help prevent it and by supporting children and young people who are impacted by this hurtful behaviour.
This course has been created to equip adults with knowledge and skills to understand the causes and impacts of appearance-based bullying and to help them educate, prevent and respond well if it happens to the young people they work with, or care for.
By completing this short eLearning course, you will be able to:
- Define what body image is
- Identify how bullying based on body image appears
- Understand why bullying based on body image takes place
- Recognise the impact of appearance-based bullying on an individual’s wellbeing
- Identify signs of appearance/image-based bullying
- Explore ways to respond, support and prevent bullying based on appearance
